WP Theme: North Farson Street

Favorite Entry

I must be trully full of myself because I when and started to give out my old Wordpress theme. Yes, it is a butchered version of Thought Mechanics’ Conestoga Street and yes, I should be shot for for still using tables, hacking off a perfectly good sidebar and wrapping up some of my vomit in a pretty bow, giving it out and saying ‘Happy Holidays from the Hendersons!’

Anyway, the this single column theme works with Wordpress 2.0 and higher. Provides a template for individual pages and an archive page.

…Niggas can’t see me. I’ve been told that maybe if I change my content or narrow my interests, Phillybred.com can be notice, or that my site doesn’t fit into one particular niche. As if I’m the one only gay, comic book reading, straight porn addicted, Doctor Who watching, Macintosh owning, 25 going on 26 year old black man on the Internet. There’s got to be at least someone else who’s like that. I digress. But why would I want to change something that’s a part of me? This site is supposed to represent me and that’s the problem you find with most blogs. Folks are constantly trying to be something they’re not and lack substance. I’ve been doing this for too long, I don’t need to fit in that badly?

At first not having PhillyBred.com recognized anywhere use to eat away at me, now it doesn’t bother me, and in fact I’m embracing it. So fuck a 9rules.com, fuck a Six24.com, and fuck a webring.

No Rules
PhillyBred.com will not longer support any type of blog community, aggregator, or web ring. If I read your blog, I’ll link to you. I won’t ask you to return the favor nor do I want folks to email requests for me to add them. Also if you happen to feel what I’m saying, help yourself to the image above. Take a stand and be uncompromised.

I can still see him doing that crazy dance or sending everyone a silly text message in the middle of the night. I already know that I’m going to miss his laugh and how he made sure everyone was okay. Last night I lost my Brother Equalizer, my friend Jabari. And while we might not have been blood, we were still family.

Things Change

It’s February, already. I’m glad that January is over and now it’s time to move on and start looking towards the future.

I’ve been hold off on this since because I didn’t want it to sound like some half-baked New Year’s resolution, but I’ve been in the process of making some great life changing decisions. The first was that I serious cut back on my red meat intake. Hopefully this will keep me away from Sickie-Deez, so it’ll keep some extra money in my pocket and drop some pounds off my gut.

I’m cutting back on frivolous spending. I think the announcement that I bought a 5th generation black iPod aka “Black Like Me” may have pissed some people off. But that was my last major purchase of the year, that and the RAM, I need to replace and the powerbook repair fees.

The last two changes kind of go hand in hand. First, I’m paying off a lot of stuff on my credit report, including my student loans. After the accident and the robbery, I’ve been playing the role of the victim and fell behind on somethings. And while my reports doesn’t look too good, its definitely fixable with some time, patience and hopefully a full time postion. And since I’m paying off some loans by May, I should be back in school this fall. I know that’s something my mom will be happy about. She wanted me to drop my current job to go back, knowing that I can’t get financial aid, because my work schedule didn’t alott any time for school. But that’s a story for another day. Essentially, I’m starting a 4-5 year plan. By the time I’m 30 I want a house, a master’s degree and live healthy & comfortable and that wasn’t going to happen with the way I was living.

I really can’t help myself, I went ahead and upgraded to Wordpress 2 RC which effectively killed have of my plugins. And not even the superfical ones like comment counter but the necessary ones like Bot-Check and phpexec. So with sans functionally and getting spam every hour I felt like a change. Yeah I know I just finished butchering up my Kubrick template a few weeks ago, but as much as I like a minimalist look, all that white looked too BLAND. So here’s a new masthead and a new background. By the way did I mention that I scraped my sidebar?

This was somehting that my fraternity brother wrote for me recently.

Abel by J.R. Rhodes (9/17/05)

He is a mystery man or at least he appears to be, because he takes the time to understand the circle of men he wants in his circle. Candid in mind yet expressionless to those he draws near, a catalyst which separates the best from the worst and pain from all our ears. He’s a man, friend, brother of worth who dares to achieve, dream and succeed. He sleeps and thinks with his head facing north. He is able and willing and the man we all want to be…

I’m not longer that 19 year old, worrying about my next paycheck from Purdue, trying to balance getting ass and going to class. I’ve written about my first heartbreak to my to my first car. I’ve been doing this for five years and yet every post always seem like my first.
